MY TWEEN

So the other day someone said to me “I read your blog the other day. Your daughter is not a tween, and I can’t believe how you over indulge her, letting her get her hair colored. I won’t let my daughter get her hair done until she’s 16!” I said, “The official age of a ‘tween’ is 8-12, look it up on Wikipedia.” What I wanted to add was “You indulge your daughter in expensive pedicures and manicures, expensive clothes, frou-frou coffees, and she has her own laptop, I don’t see the difference. Except my daughter saved her money and paid for it herself.” Unfortunately she’d already stomped off huffing and mumbling under her breath at me. I’m sure I will feel the ramifications of this one soon enough.

People around here are like that. And yes, I know she reads my blog, I really don’t care anymore.

Here’s Z, with her new do (again a tribute to Nicole). It’s adorable and just so her. She’s been on cloud nine for 2 days. It’s a proven fact if you feel good about yourself you are a happier person. Besides being happy, she also learned how to work for what she wanted and how to save money.

I think it’s been a win-win situation all around.

Shove that in your new cappuccino machine.

JEESH IS IT REALLY MAY 2007?

I seem to be catching some “hell” for not updating what we have been up to, so let’s update. Since we last spoke:

THE EASTERN SKIES
In December, we went on a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean for a week and then spent another week in Ft. Lauderdale playing in the ocean. Highlights included: Turbulence, rain, 1 sprained ankle, rain, a ferry across the ocean where we got completely doused, a great hike through the rainforest, 2 possibly broken ribs, rain, 1 possible concussion, riding zip lines through the trees, rain, a ship that everyone told me I wouldn’t feel rock rocking, a fabulous wait crew at dinner, wonderfully funny bartenders. Did I mention rain? And just plain good time with my family.

After the cruise we relaxed in Ft. Lauderdale FL. for a week. Where we experienced torrential rain the first night (which all we could do was laugh at) and the “Owners” the rest of the week.

We then came home to 28 straight days of sub zero temps, wind chills below –15°F, and almost the entire marketing department for the company I work for let go.

Fabulous.

In January, John sent my Sissy and me to New York for my Birthday to see Stomp! It was UNBELIEVABLE! I LOVE NY! We had such a good time.

THE KIDDIES

So I am now the proud parent of 2 teens and one tween (well almost).

#1 turned 16 this year he’s in tennis and is working on his driver’s license – terrifying. I have a new respect for those crazy drivers out there. I make damn sure they’re not a student driver before swearing at them.

#2 turned 13 in March. He’s currently involved in Art Club and Tennis. And puberty is being really mean to him. I leave you with testicular torsion, google it. (Thankfully after 5.5 hours in emergency, turns out it wasn't testicular torsion but in fact puberty. Really? Ya think?)

#3 turns 10 in July. I have been yelled at for coloring her hair and ‘letting’ her get a haircut that is “not like everyone else.” To which I really wanted to reply, “Why should she have to be like everyone else? Maybe your daughter should be like mine. And you’re a dumbass.” She is involved in Gymnastics, Karate and band and would very much like to include swim club, tennis, art club and... Oh there was something else... To which I replied “There is only one of me.”

I have to say, for tween and teenagers, they are fabulously good kids.

AND THEN THERE’S HOMEWORK (That would be John)

The ongoing project of the house. Well the county decided that 4 years was long enough for a building permit, so they basically gave us an ultimatum. So John finished up enough projects to satisfy the hounds and just kept going.

The county insisted we had to have a railing on the pool stairs so I designed it and he cut it out of sheet metal ……yadda yadda yadda, you know how he works.

In the mean time he worked on my art studio and I worked on making it “artsy” and organized.

And over the past few weeks we got beautiful kitchen counters installed

And FINALLY carpet in the family room.

In the mean time he continues to finish up the landscaping…

And in true Hartigan form as that last nail is pounded to finish the place, the FOR SALE sign is going up.

That’s right.

After all this work and all this time, the house is going up for sale. So, if you know anyone that is interested in an ubber awesome house that still needs a lot of landscaping….

AS FOR ME

Well, I quit my "part time temporary" job of almost 7 years. Am currently looking for another one. Continue to chase children, do the bookkeeping for the company, take on any freelance I can, and hope to go back to school in the fall for fine arts.

One more thing, I really really need to give a shout out to Nichol for my new do, she’s fabu.

So there you have it, that's what we've been up to. Until next time, hope all is well with you.

TTYL

(That would be Talk to you later.)
