Thursday, May 18, 2006 THAT DAMNED CEMENT TRUCK IS IN MY BACKYARD AGAIN ![]() I'm thinking what sparked this latest project was the time I came home from grocery shopping and complained forever about having just spent a dollar on one green pepper and over $2.60/pound for tomatoes. Yeah, that would do it. THE BIRTH OF THE VEGETABLE GARDEN J: "I'm going to put in a vegetable garden." C: Whiney voice "Why? You have so many other projects that are so close to being done...." J: "Because. It's crazy to spend the kind of money we do on vegetable when we can grow them ourselves." C: "You can grow them. I can't grow things. I can put them in the ground, if they survive, yay." J: "Well, I'm putting in a vegetable garden." C: "Whateves" So my idea of putting in a vegetable garden in 5 easy steps 1. Find a flat area in your yard 2. Dump some dirt on it 3. Shove some plants/seeds in the dirt. Water. 4. Watch the deer, bunnies and birds enjoy themselves at Cafe ala Hartigan Vegetable Garden. 5. Run to the grocery store and buy veggies. Johns Idea of a Vegetable garden involves something that looks like crop circles and requires the cement truck to visit my backyard again.

Saturday, May 06, 2006 Da Vinci Code The Da Vinci Code comes out in 2 weeks. I'm seriously thrilled. There is more controversy over this movie than the "Passions of the Christ". There are so many religious groups in fear of this movie. They want disclaimers and boycots. Why? What are they afraid of? If the religious sects actually believe what they say they believe, then why are they trying so hard to convince people not to see this movie? If they are so very confident in their beliefs, then what are they afraid of? It's a movie. A "Thriller". Maybe, they're afraid people might watch this movie and ... wonder ... question ... think ... open their minds ... realize ... explore an idea Maybe they're afraid this movie will undermine the years of control religion has held over so many people for so many a century. Maybe they're afraid that people will realize they've been duped. But it all comes back to the same question. If they (meaning any religious group) are so very sure what they believe is "the truth," then what are they afraid of? I mean really, if you are confident in "the truth" as you believe it, why wouldn't you just ignore the movie, instead of fearing it? posted by me | 10:23 PM | 6 comments |
