Da Vinci Code

The Da Vinci Code comes out in 2 weeks. I'm seriously thrilled.

There is more controversy over this movie than the "Passions of the Christ". There are so many religious groups in fear of this movie. They want disclaimers and boycots.

Why? What are they afraid of?

If the religious sects actually believe what they say they believe, then why are they trying so hard to convince people not to see this movie?

If they are so very confident in their beliefs, then what are they afraid of?

It's a movie.

A "Thriller".

Maybe, they're afraid people might watch this movie and

... wonder

... question

... think

... open their minds

... realize

... explore an idea

Maybe they're afraid this movie will undermine the years of control religion has held over so many people for so many a century.

Maybe they're afraid that people will realize they've been duped.

But it all comes back to the same question. If they (meaning any religious group) are so very sure what they believe is "the truth," then what are they afraid of?

I mean really, if you are confident in "the truth" as you believe it, why wouldn't you just ignore the movie, instead of fearing it?

Get over it, the book is fiction.

That was kinda my point.

The book is fiction.

So why do I get, at minimum, at least 1 phone call asking for my support in boycotting the movie, A solicitation from someone at my door wanting to tell me the "Truth about the DaVinci Code" and an advertisment from whatever church to attend their weekly meetings so they can defunt the movie, on a weekly basis?

And the closer the movie gets to opening, the more mail, solicitations and phone calls I get.

What are they afraid of?

I'm afraid of Tom Hanks' hair.

But seriously, it wasn't that good of a book, so here's to hoping that it makes a better movie.

And regardless of its thruthfulness, fact or fiction, getting people to question their beliefs can only ever be a good thing.

So true, on all counts. It reminds me of the Borg--must assimilate!

I don't care how low brow middle America it makes me sound, I can't wait to see this movie. And I HATE going to the movies.

I hate actually going to the movies too. But I'll go for this one.
